Winter Bazaar

Dear Parents

The children are buzzing with excitement as Ambrit gets dressed up with Holiday Cheer!!!

Just a few reminders:

Please remember to bring in canned goods to the Exchange Booth in the Atrium so your child can get his/her vouchers for the Bazaar on Friday!
N.B: 1 can is equal to 1 euro. So if you would usually give your child 5 Euro send in 5 cans. There will be the used toy sale, a bake sale and book sale.We will be busy throughout the day doing many different activities with our 4th grade big buddies.

  • If you will be leaving early for the holidays please let us know so we can get your child's things ready ahead of time.
  • Don't forget to send in a GLASS JAR( un baratolo di vetro) as soon as possible so we can get busy on our end of the unit project.
Our Winter Recital is on Thursday December 19th. Please make sure your child is dressed in any combination of red, white or green. More information will follow!

Thank you all for your support!

The Field Trip to the Planetarium!

We had a wonderful morning at the Planetarium! We are sure that your children told you all about the field trip and all the things they saw in the " night sky"! We watched the sun rise in the East and set in the West and where it falls throughout the day. They told us stories of the Constellations and how they came to be. We even learned a little bit about the Planets that hide far away in deep dark Solar System.

The guide asked us all to remember to turn off the lights in the rooms in our homes when we are not in them! He said if we all do this eventually the stars will shine brighter and we will be saving energy!

Be sure to have a look at the children's artwork on the walls describing what they remember of our field trip!

Field trip

Dear parents

You should have received the field trip consent form in your child's backpack on Friday, if you didn't please let us know and we will give you another form.

We will be going to the Planetarium on November 26th. Our showing is at 9:30 am and they are extremely punctual. We ask that you are at school NO LATER than 8:30am preferably by 8:15, as we are leaving the school promptly at 8:30. If you know in advance that your child will not be coming, please let us know so we can note that down.

We will be back at school for lunch, but have asked the catering company to give us a picnic lunch in case we run later than expected. If your child has home lunch, it would be best to send in a packed lunch on that day.

For the trip you can send a snack with your child in a small backpack!

We will send out another reminder closer to the day!

Happy Sunday

The Dark Room

We have turned the EAL room into a dark room for the course of this unit, allowing the children a space to explore and to experience what life would be like without light! We have this space a number of times during the week, taking small groups as well as the whole class on little trips!

This week we started using the Dark Room taking small groups in to do different activities:

Exploring with the flashlights to see if we could figure out where we were and secondly to write our names and other mark makings in the dark!! The children had a fun time, realizing that doing things in the dark is quite difficult!

Here are a few photos of our experiences:

Halloween Sing A Long Lyrics

Here are the words to our Halloween songs for October 31st at the EC Sing A Long:

HALLOWE’EN SINGALONG

Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a fence                        Four little pumpkins…
And the witch came flying by!                                    Three little pumpkins…
Oooo!                                                                                    Two little pumpkins…
I’ll turn you into pumpkin pie!                                    One little pumpkin…

Pumpkins on a Gate
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate!
The first one said, “It’s getting rather late.”
The second one said, “I’m ready for some fun.”
The third one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fourth one said, “There are witches in the air!”
The fifth one said, “But we don’t care!”
“OOOO!!” Went the wind, and out went the light.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Monsters
Monsters short, monsters tall!                        Monsters playing basketball.
Monsters green, monsters, red,               Monsters standing on their heads.
Monsters bad, monsters cute,                         Monsters in their bathing suit.
Monsters trying to comb their hair,            Monsters in their underwear!

*It’s monster day, hip-hip-hooray! And as they pass, you can hear them say:
Ugga-bugga wugga! Uga bugga boo! Brrrrrrh!
Scoobeedoobeedoo.
Ugga-bugga wugga! Uga bugga boo! Monsters may be ugly,
But monsters need love too!

Monsters brave, monsters shy, Monsters eating pumpkin pie.
Monsters fast, monsters slow.            Monsters playing tic-tac-toe.
Monsters happy, monsters sad, Monsters grabbing, monsters glad!
Monsters having lots of fun.            Monsters chewing bubble gum. *

THE OLD LADY
There was an old lady all skin and bones.   Ooooooooo!
One night she thought she’d take a walk. Ooooooooo
She walked down to the old graveyard. Ooooooooo
She saw the bones a-lying around. Ooooooooo
She thought she ought to sweep them up. Ooooooooo
She went to the closet to get a broom. Ooooooooo
She went to the door and ………… Boo!

The Ghost of John
Have you seen the ghost of John?
Long white bones with the skin all gone!
Oooooo!
Wouldn’t it be chilly with no skin on?

WHEN WITCHES WERE WALTZING
One night I went wandering out into the wood.
I felt I had wondered much more than I should,
For I came to a meadow, a magical spot,
Where witches were waltzing, I never forgot *

*What a wild and weird and wonderful sight,
when witches were waltzing on Halloween night!

I wanted to watch, so I hid in a tree.
I said to myself, “Can’t believe what I see!”
It’s a Skeleton Samba, a Monster Minuet,
A Pumpkin Polka, a Goblin Gavotte!
And witches were waltzing,
I never forgot! *

They waltzed in the moon by the light of the stars.
The scarecrow was strumming her ghostly guitar
With the Skeleton Samba, the Monster Minuet,
The Pumpkin Polka, the Goblin Gavotte,
And witches were waltzing, I never forgot. *

Some night you’ll wake up in a wandering mood.
The west wind will whisper, “Away to the wood.”
And you will come with me, we’ll all take a chance,
We’ll go there together and join in the dance!
The Skeleton Samba, the Monster Minuet,
The Pumpkin Polka, the Goblin Gavotte,
And witches were waltzing, I never forgot. *

 Pumpkin Stew
Pumpkin stew,                                                                        HALLOWEEN!
Pumpkin stew,                                                                        You should know it’s the time of year
What shall we put            When the goblins and ghosts appear.
In the pumpkin stew?            They come at night when there’s no more light.
                                                                                    Halloween is almost here!
                                                                                    If you look very carefully
Halloween!                                                                        There’s a goblin behind that tree.
Halloween, Halloween,                                                But I must say, don’t you run away,
Pumpkins fat!                                                                        Cause it might be me!
Halloween, Halloween,
Pumpkins fat!
Witches ride on broomsticks
Wearing pointy hats!
Halloween, Halloween,
Big black cat!

LISTEN!
Listen, I can hear something funny outside!
Listen, I can hear something funny outside!
It’s shuffling closer, shuffling closer,
Now I can hear it breathing!
Listen, I can hear something funny outside!
IT’S HERE!!

Ideas for Light and Dark at home with your child

Dear Parents,

This Unit of Inquiry, Light and Dark is a great unit also to bring into your homes, not just learning at school. You can talk with your child about many things over the course of this unit:

  • The time change that will be happening next week: why does it get darker earlier? What changes happen as a result? How does this effect our day?
  • What things can we do in the day time that we can't do at night time? (And vice versa)
  • Different uses and/or sources of light
  • Can they spot light sources, ie: traffic lights, police lights, ambulance on their way to school and home
  • Colour mixing

We would like to ask if you have any old sunglasses or masks from the airplane that you would like to donate, that would be very helpful!

Thank you

The Kinder Team

Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

We have just ended our first unit "Discover Develop and Design Patterns" and as of today, will start our exciting new unit "Light and Dark": How the world works. We will be exploring how our lives and environment are impacted by light and dark.

In order for us to make the most of this unit, we ask that your child brings a small flashlight (not wind-up) with a pack of working batteries to school.

Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Best wishes,

The Kinder Team

New Unit of Inquiry: Light and Dark

We wanted to know what the children know about light and dark and day and night! We put our pyjama's on while they were in specials and " went to sleep". The children thought this was very funny, finding us "sleeping" on the carpet in the middle of the day! This was then followed by a class discussion about Day and Night and the things we do at certain times of the day!

Thank you!

We would like to thank all the parents in Kindergarten for coming to the target setting conferences. Although we could have talked for hours, the time spent with you was enlightening and promising! We look forward to working together on the goals set for your children over the year!

Please remember that we are always available to meet with you, just as long as you request a time and/or day, we will try our best to accommodate you!

We wish you a restful evening and see you tomorrow.

The Kinder Team,

Kinder JL final performances...wrapping up our first Unit of Inquiry- Patterns

The children worked hard putting together there favorite Nursery Rhyme shows, together with their friends! This meant having to choose props, deciding who would take on certain roles and taking turns. The children were fantastic but most importantly had a lot of fun performing! Well done everyone!
