What's up next?

Our Journey has come to an end and the children are busy packing their suitcases for their chosen trip for our summative assessment! The children are thinking about, the weather, how to get there, how long they will be staying and what kinds of clothes to bring. The beautiful suitcases they made in Art Class with Ms Chiara will be coming home this week and they are filled with all kinds of things. Please take some time to sit with your children and look at all the wonderful things they have been doing!

Our next Unit of Inquiry:

HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES
THE WORLD OF WORK

Central idea:

People play different roles in the communities to which they belong.

An Inquiry into:

Roles of people who are part of our communities

How communities are organized

Rules and responsibilities in a community

Questions which we will be thinking about while Inquiring into The World of Work are:

  1. What is a community?
  2. What is a job?
  3. Why do people have jobs?
  4. What jobs interest you?

If you haven't done so already, please send in the permission form ASAP so that we can get out and about around the community here at school!

Have a wonderful day

News

Dear Parents

Our New Unit is well under way and the children are having a great time role playing in our travel agencies, filling out their passports and writing up tickets for their journeys!

Today we finished our Magic Carpets and will now start our virtual journeys through the smart board. A different child every day will have a chance to spin the globe and when it stops they put their finger on a spot. That is the spot where we will travel too! It is a magical way to take the children to see the world, using technology and creativity together!

If your child has an interest in a particular place, please let us know and we can go there too!

We are starting our Kinder Activities this week as well. During this Unit, each teacher will take a small group of children on a journey to their country of choice- We are going to go to Canada to make pancakes, Scotland to dance a Scottish dance and the USA to play a baseball game and to learn about Native Americans and Dream Catchers!

Please Remember No School for both EC and Primary on Thursday and Friday, due to a workshop for all teachers.

Enjoy your evening!

New Year, New Unit!

We have settled back into school life after the long holiday period and the children are beginning to inquire into Journeys and what that means.

If you haven't done so already, please remember to hand in the homework that was sent home last week and to include and souvenirs or photos from the Journey your family took. This activity is our front loader or rather, the starter activity for the Unit, giving the children a real life connection to the Center Idea. Please remember if you would like to come in and talk about a Journey you have been on please contact us to set up a time!

Here is a summary of the Unit ahead:

Central Idea: Journeys  create  change  and  can  lead  to  new  opportunities

An Inquiry in to:

  • Types  of  journeys  people  make
  • Choices  and  decisions  involved  in  making  a  journey
  • Changes  experienced  because  of  a  journey

A few provocations and questions we will use to drive the Inquiry:

What  is  a  journey?
What  memories of a journey do you have? and why?
What  different  reasons are there to take a journey?
What  did  you  need  to  do  before  going  on  your  journey?
Why do  we  remember  what  we  experienced  on  a  journey?
What  journeys  would  you  like  to  go  on?

Winter Bazaar

Dear Parents

The children are buzzing with excitement as Ambrit gets dressed up with Holiday Cheer!!!

Just a few reminders:

Please remember to bring in canned goods to the Exchange Booth in the Atrium so your child can get his/her vouchers for the Bazaar on Friday!
N.B: 1 can is equal to 1 euro. So if you would usually give your child 5 Euro send in 5 cans. There will be the used toy sale, a bake sale and book sale.We will be busy throughout the day doing many different activities with our 4th grade big buddies.

  • If you will be leaving early for the holidays please let us know so we can get your child's things ready ahead of time.
  • Don't forget to send in a GLASS JAR( un baratolo di vetro) as soon as possible so we can get busy on our end of the unit project.
Our Winter Recital is on Thursday December 19th. Please make sure your child is dressed in any combination of red, white or green. More information will follow!

Thank you all for your support!
